Artificial Intelligence Helps Travelers Reduce the Anxiety of Waiting in the Airport

Airports partnered with Artificial Intelligence company to improve traveling experience. The new service provides estimated wait time at the TSA security checkpoints and ticketing and bag checks lines, and the condition of parking occupancy by using cloud-based AI.

Pittsburgh International Airport has released a new AI-enhanced service from Zensors to help reduce the stress of the holiday rush. Zensors uses the existing cameras and sensors from the airport and combines them with an artificial intelligence platform, combining with a specially trained network that measures line length and the approximate number of people waiting in line.


“We’re constantly looking for ways to improve the passenger experience, especially with the innovative use of emerging technologies developed right here in Pittsburgh,” said Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis. “We know security can be a frustration for travelers and having accurate wait estimates can help set expectations and aid in planning trips.”

One of the new services provided by this Zensors is the accurate estimated waiting time in the TSA security check. "We know that the airport security screening process is very stressful for passengers and a significant operational challenge for airports and air carriers," said Anuraag Jain, head of product at Zensors. The data collected from the cameras will be generated within two to three minutes. Then, the waiting time will be displayed on the screens of the Terminal and the airport’s website, Flypittsburgh.com. Estimated wait times are updated every minute.


Jain added: "AI is rapidly penetrating airports to support a more efficient and seamless journey. Not limited to reporting wait times, AI will power a more personalized travel experience to each customer from the curb to the gate.”


Zensors also monitors real-time traffic and parking violations. It displays the number of people waiting in the taxi lines and shuttle stops to help travelers plan their schedules ahead.


The head of the product at Zensors, Anuraag Jain also said that “Airports are a perfect use case for this type of technology. We’re applying deep learning in a way that can really become a game-changer for passengers and airport operations,” “We’re excited to help turn Pittsburgh into the world’s smartest airport.”


With the new technology of artificial intelligence, some troubles can be gradually solved. People can find that AI technology can be used to improve human life as long as it is utilized in a proper way. Connecting the newest technology with the previous technology and making the living condition better and better shows that technology and science have no limitations. Therefore, people should make good use of it and be more careful about the usage of new technology.
