Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit is the perfect companion for Xbox Adaptive Controller that opens a window of possibilities for disabled gamers.
Logitech unveiled the Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit in which is compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller on Nov 18, 2019. Announced by Logitech, it is designed for gamers with accessibility needs by providing “large assortment of buttons and triggers with gaming-grade components for performance and durability” at a more affordable price point.
How did Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit come true?
As TechCrunch pointed out, the number of gamers with disabilities has grown gradually with the fact that gaming has become more dominant in our lives. Millions of people around the world are now facing challenges while playing games, for example, not being able to use a mouse or controller and keyboard as normal people can.
“When we design a gaming keyboard or mouse, we engage pros, players, all that stuff, right? So with this, it’s absolutely critical to watch them with every piece.” said Mark Starrett, Logitech G’s senior global product manager.
Taking the growth of gamers with disabilities into consideration, Logitech collaborated with Microsoft Inclusive Tech Lab and leading accessibility groups including The AbleGamers Charity, Abilities Research Center at Mount Sinai, and SpecialEffect to create a new offering that promotes a more accessible and enjoyable gaming experience.
That is how Logitech’s Adaptive Gaming Kit comes into being and unlocks the possibilities to play for disabled players.
What exactly is in the box?
Designed to meet the needs of people with different disabilities, Adaptive Gaming Kit offers a set of controls that are easily configured to various use cases.
You will find four highly sensitive light-touch buttons making it easily activated with low force. Moreover, the kit includes two variable triggers that are pressure- sensitive, functioning like gas pedals, ideal for racing games.
Then, there comes the three small and three large buttons featuring gaming-grade mechanical switches. Both offer durable and consistent actuation, while the small buttons allow for easy and quick press, and the large buttons are reinforced with stabilizer bars for consistent actuation across the full surface.
Other than the buttons and triggers, there are two configurable hook and loop gaming boards to which you can attach and arrange on. With one rigid and other flexible, they are customized for players with different needs; for instance, they can be draped over a leg or the arm of a couch, said by TechCrunch.
Last but not least, the Adaptive Gaming kit comes with custom labels and stickers that match with symbols found on Xbox controller as well as being suitable for gamers who would use the sets differently.
Pricing and availability
One commitment that Logitech has made is to turn gaming more inclusive and diverse. Logitech said they hope to break down the barriers that prevent players from fully enjoying playing games, and the price is one of the major concerns.
Although Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller has helped improve disabled players’ gaming experience, when it comes to purchasing the peripherals including separate triggers, switches, and other accessories, that indeed can be a burden for gamers. Namely, individual accessories can cost at least US$40 each and go up from there according to Geek.com.
As a result, the Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit, which costs only US$100, serves as a more cost-effective option. The Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit will be available on LogitechG.com later this month through select Microsoft retail stores.
As Jenny Lay-Flurrie, the chief accessibility officer at Microsoft said, “The Xbox Adaptive Controller opened up gaming to people with disabilities all around the world.” She also added, “With the addition of Logitech G’s Adaptive Gaming Kit, we’re excited to see that impact continue to grow. It’s never been more important to design through the lens of disability and push the boundaries of what technology can do to be inclusive of everyone around the world.”
Undoubtedly, Logitech will keep working with accessibility groups and Microsoft to expand their accessible products in the future so as to facilitate a more inclusive gaming experience and bring delight to every players.
