The Razr is back and keeps the classic flip phone design with a foldable twist.
On Nov. 14, 2019, Motorola announced its new Razr smartphone with a nearly identical flip-phone design as the origin from 2004.
The Razr is a flip phone that uses a hinge and a “Flex View” display. It's a 6.6-inch pOLED 2142x876 display with a 21:9 ratio. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, which closes from right to left, the Razr is foldable in a top-down format. The Razr is perfectly flat when folded; there is no gap.
The clamshell outer shell is made of stainless steel and its comes in one color only (Noir black). There is a Quick View 2.7-inch gOLED 600x800 display on the front above the main 16-megapixel camera. The Quick View display lets you control music playback, engage with the Google Assistant, take selfies, see notifications, and easily view the time as well.
When these flexible displays are exposed to dust, we have seen what can happen, and this is designed to keep it tightly sealed. The Razr has a water-resistant, splash-proof nano coating. However, there is no IPX rating in typical Motorola fashion.

The Razr 2019 truly inherits the old-school Razr design, from the flip-flat hinge to the chunky bottom 'lip' that the top folds down to meet. Although it doesn’t feel the same as flipping open the old Razr (the old one is denser, wider, and harder to open with one hand), it’s a touching reflection of the old-school format.
As fresh as Motorola’s foldable smartphone release may seem, the company is not the only one who has thought of this idea. In fact, Samsung is also releasing the Galaxy Fold, along with Huawei and Microsoft having their own designs of foldable phones.
To this fact, Motorola replied with the following statement:
"We have full confidence in the durability of the Flex View display, and based on our research, it will last for the average lifespan of a smartphone.”
It is also evident that Motorola intends to use customer service to make the Motorola Razr stand out. The company will provide 24/7 chat support. In addition, 24-hour turnaround is guaranteed. Should the device fail, Motorola will repair or replace the device free of charge.
“We acknowledge this is a brand new technology and we are committed to continue improving as the industry evolves. Therefore, we’ve created a world class service package to make sure every Razr customer has an exceptional experience," said in Motorola’s statement.
